Mirror Mirror
In this self-reflective series, I explore the implications of looking/showing my body.
Feminine archetypes, skin landscapes, skin architectures. Home and the living.
The reference images are pictures of close ups of my body and the fabrics that cover it. Never selfies. I then transformed those pictures by using a mirror effect filter. I wanted distance. To see my body without the affect of being in that skin. What does the other see? Can it be looked at without vulnerability? What are the implications of skin?
The impulse to paint arose from the technical challenge of making symmetrical paintings, composed of soft gradients of colors in various shapes. The difficulty of balancing the controlled symmetry with the loose soft color gradients in the same gesture.
